Personal Portfolio (Updated by an inch)

The following portrays (in my opinion) my best work from what I have completed during my journey towards my Media Communications Certificate via Full Sail University Online.

Intro to Media Communications top 3 Posts: (1) Week 5: Media Creation in the Industry:

Task 1: ACLU –

American Civil Liberties Union focuses on helping wronged citizens based on race, prejudice, or free speech. In the year 2014, the ACLU helped rap duo Insane Clown Posse, or ICP, file a federal lawsuit towards the FBI regarding their fanbase being classified as a “hybrid” criminal gang. In 2017, years later the ICP, myself, and thousands other marched the streets of Washington D.C. near the White House proving the Juggalos are not a gang.

Task 2: ACLU – ACLU.ORG 41second commercial

ACLU.ORG 41 second commercial

Included is the link for the forty-one-second  commercial. Yes, I admit I am not perfect at thirty seconds here.  Summarization with emphasis and exemplified exuberance from task1 shown in this video.  The candle lighting for effect sending the positive reinforcement like a good insurance company; ACLU is there for you to light your life up. This explains the attention grabber in the candle burning. Repeated words also help. Hatchetman necklace is worn showing the defense towards Juggalos, and the insane clown posse.

Backgrounder –  NOTICE DOWNTOWN ART FESTIVAL IN GOTHAM CITY

Blake John.      10 days prior to Blake throwing his Gotham city police department badge in the Ocean Batman risked his life to save the city. Batman, with his Batwing, with the bomb attached, flew 20 miles to the ocean then 20 more miles into the ocean air to drop the bomb only to have it detonate before he could drop it in the ocean. Bane and his henchmen were the ones who orchestrated the bomb to go off in Gotham city. There were more explosives Bane had set off in the football field deep downtown. Batman killing himself I assure you was not on purpose. Batman will rest in peace. Commissioner Gordon secretly wants a new crime fighter to wear the infamous cowl and don the mask as Batman. No longer Bruce Wayne, the secret of his identity as Batman is safe with the Commissioner and Blake John. Jake Johnstone; a low-level PR worker for the Gotham City Tourism Board Press Relations office prepares a speech. The speech preparation time taken was 45 minutes. In memory of Bruce Wayne, Jake speaks at an upcoming “Bruce Wayne Downtown Art Festival”. Commissioner Gordon orders Blake John to stand guard in case any inmates from the Arkham Asylum try crashing the festival, or breaking apart the festivities in any way.

Task 2: “Quick Draw Paul” 30-second ad for Downtown Art Festival

(3) Week 8: Portfolio Project & Reflection :

Task 1: MCT Personal Reflection –

Personally, over the last 7 weeks, I have doubted myself numerous times during this course. I went from telling myself I would go against the grain for week 2’s task 2 I remember. Now I finally realize how my future is no laughing matter, as well as my grade. Strict with myself regardless of a little setback, I intended to keep trudging on. I then realized adhering to a Monday thru Thursday schedule for schoolwork at times had me yearning for more when I would finish early. The passionate mindset I’ve learned over the years has to be thanked. Motivation comes from life experiences, pro wrestlers, rappers, all dreamers. I, too, have always been a dreamer. As far back as I can remember since age 3 or so hearing MC Hammer’s “You Can’t Touch This”. Or fast forward to middle school when pro wrestling was such a passion of mine that my best friends and I created our own “PCW, Psychotic Championship Wrestling”, “fake backyard wrestling organization”. In 12th grade for fun, I wrote a screenplay with dreams of being a screenwriter or Director. “Mystery of KK” was my short film screenplay. One day in 12th grade I brought my printed 6-9 page screenplay in for my Drama/12th grade English teacher Mr.Lichtenberger to read. Amazed he enjoyed it, laughed from it. Horror/comedy story goal met! This was motivation! I never gave up during this course! The grade is now currently 82.73 as of 11:28 am last time noticing 2/22/21! Thankful with gratitude.

(1) Week 6: Prezi & Populating Platforms:

Task 1: Create OC with a Web-based Presentation Tool –

First off I’m unsure how to take the underline off after I take it off. Hard to explain because it is off, but after my typed word it appears to lag right there like the cat that wants the wet food and pronto. Figured out eventually. Nonetheless, I will admit Prezi.com is really easy to understand. I fell asleep watching the Lord of the Rings movie, and the first tutorial on Prezi I watch shows a guy that did a report on the said movie “Lord of the Rings”. Wednesday night I watched the latest episode of AEW Dynamite featuring a Godzilla vs Kong match with Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus vs Bear Country. I have wanted to watch the latest movie Godzilla vs Kong, but this inspired and motivated me to take it further. Not only just that but this week I finished ‘Revival’ written by Stephen King. Sounded like a great plan at the time to do some research on Godzilla from 2014, Kong: Skull Island from 2017, and then review three movies and one novel in Revival. I will admit my review is a tad short, but that was for a reason. Explained in the video. Below is the link.

Media Strategy –

Arthur Johnstone Jr. is reporting the media strategy for Jake Johnstone from the JakeJohnstone19.com blogsite. Regardless of a suggestion I gave him to not buy the domain for JakeJohnstone19, he ignored me. Insisted. Quite persistent. Luck stroke Jake when he attempted to purchase the domain name. 50% off flash sale money from a “$48.00 not there” to an available $24.00 for the “JakeJohnstone19.com” domain name. Not seeing an increase in followers it seems, Jake nonetheless stays positive with a “consistency is key” mindset for the online personas all from Jake Johnstone! Every day to stay strong posting! Keeping the resiliency strong!  Every positive life-changing event Jake promised to dedicate to his late sister Monica Paige Wheatley Johnson who unfortunately relapsed and overdosed on heroin. Jake, who used to rap under the name ” X-urace “Mr.X” Bro” downtown in Salisbury, MD at a local bar “Mojo’s” in the year 2018 he dedicated countless open mic performances to his sister at peace. 7 performances in a row every Tuesday roughly at 11:00 pm! 8th to rest since that is his favorite number. I recently got a chance to have a short interview with Jake Johnstone. Arthur Johnstone Jr. interviews Jake Johnstone regarding his current media strategy to stay on a positive climb.

(3) Week 8: Portfolio Project & Reflection:

Task 1: Written Reflection –

Time spent in positive new media tools enjoyment. An eight-week journey. Enjoyed the journey every step of the way with consistency. I even inadvertently finished early on weeks 6, and 7, and planning on the eighth. Positive consistency is key in life with any progress. Success is the greatest revenge, a cliche quote but sure enough true to the t of every letter of the explanation of the words. Thinking back has me knowing the future is better for my endeavors from the work I have put in. More hours to continue on my journey towards completion of the media communications certificate via full sail university’s full sail online. Positive passionate work represented is something I shall have to occur from my soul every day I am here on this earth in a stronghold the way I shall never give up! Anticipating what is next. Impatient almost the way my anxiety has me to complete assignments early. Week 6 and 7 I somehow had completed so early I felt like Sonic the Hedgehog tapping my feet waiting for the next class. If you have ever played Sega Genesis this you will understand represented. Positive acclamation is necessary for the onward climb in life!

Task 2: Personal Analysis and Strategy –

Only one way to find out. Never give up. Those words ring in my soul towards the completion of a media communications certificate. The 28 day summary for Twitter account @JakeJohnstone19 is as follows. 56 Tweets up 9.8%. 2,455 Tweet impressions up 165.7%. 50 profile visits down 87.1%. 9 mentions, up 200%. 14 followers, up 4. (1) Week 3: Color Palette Analysis:

Task 1: Movie Poster Examination –

Little Nicky – Colors most associated with the Little Nicky poster are dull, vibrant, and slightly dark with red fire at the bottom to represent hell. Associated with the movie title are fiery red to represent the never-ending burning in hell, while the cheery blue skies with white clouds shine on the silly goofy heartwarming charming Nicky played by Adam Sandler. Complementary color schemes are presented in the Little Nicky poster. Every color complements each other reminding me of the nostalgia I associate this poster with my 8th-grade middle school graduation present to visit New York City and visit the Popeye’s chicken and biscuits restaurant as seen in the movie. This particular color scheme helps Nicky stand out sitting on the park bench. Happy thoughts bursting with laughter come to mind.

Task 2: Movie Poster Creation –

Pro-Wrestling Super-Fan Starring Jake Johnstone

Task 3: Written Analysis Report –

The colors in the ad most significant to me represent an analogous color scheme reminding me of the black and white from a newspaper’s colors. Warm, depressing, worried, anxious moods are shown in each ad from the campaign. A different ad associated with the same campaign is shown. Each ad represents the same focus vantage point which is creative expression through emotion. Great ideas can’t hide in the name of each particular ad. The first ad shows a girl writing ideas on a giant wall looking like a black chalkboard. “No limitations.” “Focus” “Pull Quotes.” “Book or Poster.” All examples from ad 1 where a girl looking at the camera with a piece of chalk in her hand kneeled down next to the chalkboard-like wall. The second ad shows an example of “art at all costs” where an artist appears to be drawing his art illegally on a nearby wall in a local building. The slogan at the bottom reads “Brilliance meets balls”. No explanation is more necessary for the second ad. Onto the third ad. “Great ideas can’t hide” is the ongoing slogan in all of these ads with this particular campaign from the Denver Ad Club. The third ad features a woman that appears to be running away from something losing her stack of newspapers. It appears this woman has fear of something. “We can do it the hard way” is in bold at the bottom of the third ad. Following that reading is “Or the easy way. Either way, we’ll get your idea. And we’ll make it famous. The call for entries is on.” Onto “Great Ideas Can’t Hide” ad no.4. The 4th ad in the campaign features a shadow shown on the wall from a crouching young man that appears to be a student holding his folded up laptop cowering from something. Creatively expressing something I’m feeling from each of these ads. “You Cannot Hide It.” is shown below appearing like a slogan with the words following “We’ll find your ideas. Then we’ll make them famous. The fifty call for entries is open.” Onto the fifth ad now in this campaign. The fifth ad in this campaign “Great Ideas Can’t Hide” features a young woman appearing to be sitting in a chair inside of a study room with coffee or tea nearby writing like in fear. Words are shown appearing at the bottom of the ad “Fear Might Make You Famous.” “Succumb. Submit.” Soak it in. The Fifty calls for entries is open.” Onto the 6th ad from this campaign and I am honestly still confused about what is about, but intrigued more nonetheless to do some research before final discussion of 6th ad in the “Great Ideas Can’t Hide” campaign from the Denver Ad Club. The ad campaign is outdated although from 2011. Nonetheless, the 6th and final ad show a young man holding his phone looking filled with fear looking around the corner from an elevator.

(2) Week 5: Composition Analysis:

Task 1: Real-World Ad Composition –

Crest Ad

The rules of composition are demonstrated via this ad from carefully placed illusions via animals. The ad sells smiles. Crest is the company. The viewer of the ad forgets what is in the background as the filter overtop the maybe yellow teeth is a pearly white silly animal’s face.

Sheba Ad

Visual balance is adhered here via symmetry as well with the viewer going left and right with the eyes of the viewer. Being a cat owner myself I experienced this when viewing this particular ad. Visual hierarchy is demonstrated within the rules of composition by a funny yet captivating way of selling what most cats love…which is Sheba premium cat food! My cat Oreo approves also every morning!!

Greenpeace Ad

Demonstration of the rules of composition is very visually enhancing in this third final ad discussed briefly here from Greenpeace. The attention of the viewer via the visual hierarchy is very captivating strictly in a way that is almost disturbing after an illusionary enhancing way of viewing this ad from looking at the bottle and then back at the information of the ad I find myself glad I recycle and also am an animal lover on this beautiful mother earth we all inhabit!!

Task 2: Components of Design –

Balance is achieved in the ad’s composition via asymmetrical appearance. The rule of thirds does not appear to be in this ad from my vantage point. My reasoning comes from how the main balanced element of the crouching student does not match the shadow on the wall. Very interesting intellectual vantage point shown in the ad from the Denver Ad club. Leading lines present in the ad go back to the vantage point of the crouching student in fear to the shadow that is differential in shape from the person in the photo that is bottom right. The visual hierarchy that comes into play in my opinion is how the stairs show connected to the shadow staring towards the eye of the viewer right to the bottom right showing a crouching student filled with fear holding his laptop. Emphasis bringing these elements to life is the light at the top of the ad directed towards the shadow leading viewer’s eye to the bottom right where the crouching student is in fear holding his laptop. Another look. A fifth, sixth, or even ninth look at this ad could give the viewer different emotional reactions from how it is more complex after each initial look of the ad. There is a definite way that a viewer of this ad can see something different each initial time he or she looks at this ad from the Denver Ad club. I, myself have looked at this ad numerous times over ten but studying this ad a 30th time vs a measly 5th time can show how intellectual one must be to come up with something so complex. For example, I didn’t see the exit sign that is next to a wall until approximately my 12th viewing or so of the particular ad, I am studying here from the Denver Ad club. From atop the stairs on down towards the bottom where the young student is appearing holding his laptop crouching in fear one just can not help but to have over a thousand thoughts conjure up. I know my brain feels like it could go on and on about what I am pondering that is just racing in this young man’s mind that is holding the laptop. Fear is a powerful tool used in this ad here. Face everything and recover. No more crouching I say! Get up and face life over and over. If one fails, get up and try 397 times even if one fails 396 times more; it is that 404th time that a failure equals success that life is just so powerfully worth!!

(3) Week 7: Audio Aesthetics Analysis:

Task 1: Written Analysis Report –

Film soundtracks and scores play a role in our emotions. Nonlinear analog sounds give off unnerving emotions. Unsettling moods tend to happen via immediate watching of JAWS since the opening scene plays eerie music saying eminent terror from a shark could be near. A triumph shown on a movie screen more than not matches the film score. Whether the music is positive or negative sounding, the triumph in the particular scene always matches. Whether the event itself seen in the movie is or isn’t pleasant, the audio effects more than not always match. “A Clockwork Orange” vs “Juno” in a soundtrack are two different entertainment spectrums as far as movie genres go but both use positive-sounding music with a depressing or disturbing theme going on meanwhile in the visuals of the particular scene. The music soundtrack more than not matches the tone of the movie. Emotion, based on the musical score meanwhile within each genre has reasoning within perfection and organizing based on the director’s pitch of that particular music soundtrack/score for the movie he is directing. After studying the pacing difference in three different movies I have noticed a similar yet drastic approach with every three stories attached to coinciding films. Child’s Play from 2019 starring Aubrey Plaza. Menacing, slow piano, similar to a silent movie how the score matches each scene perfectly but no soundtrack that matches the movie. All original score/soundtrack so perfect that if the dialogue could somehow be turned off, but yet the musical score left on it would still match perfectly. The Shallows starring Blake Lively from 2016 I studied second that is the best example of a 2000s version of JAWS as perfectly exampled as could be. Third and final film score I studied was from a 2018 horror film “Delirium” which had every scene match the horror perfectly with slow classical music or upbeat shrieky startling upbeat music to scare you outta your seat! Not intentional how each film’s score I studied has similar scores, but not much of a soundtrack except what was mostly original to match the score and each particular story perfectly! Citations on the particular films I studied plus research I did will be given within this post. For Task 2 my Soundcloud account I was using for my JakeJohnstone19.com blog actually has no free space left. Hope the following link to my current blog but yet with a link to my music SoundCloud account of the same audio report of this current written analysis report.
